Buying a Vintage Camera
Vintage cameras are very popular, with some people buying them as a collectible, others as a functional camera to produce old fashioned images. If you're after the latter, it's important to ensure the product is in working order.
To determine whether a camera can be used, here are some important things to consider:
Does the camera currently work? If not, find out if it can be fixed and what these costs will be.
Can you still buy film? If you're wanting to actually take photos with your new (or should I say old) purchase, doing some research to ensure film is still available is highly recommended. For very rare cameras they will likely require rare film, so look into the price of this too before making a decision.
Is there a lens? Antique cameras may no longer have a lens, and if you're wanting a functional device that takes photos, you're going to need one. Much like film, do some research to see if lenses are available for the specific model, and what the costs will be.
With our vintage cameras, they are generally from private collections, where the individual has taken great care of the items. But asking questions is a great way to find out everything you need to know, so you can make an informed purchase decision.
